The expense and time was well worth it.
There are so many stories, I don't even know how to explain it all, but here is a list along with some photos:

1. I met Beyonslay. She is 50% booty and knows how to use it. She's really pretty as well and super nice. I regret not having my photo made with her.

2. Charm City All Stars are insanely good.

3. Gianna's vegan pizza was so amazing. I wanted to pack up their little restaurant and take it on the plane.

4. While parking our car, one of the Haitian men let me know that he would gladly let me see his "big bell" as opposed to the Liberty one I came to see in Philly.

5. The girl who owns Via Derby was asked by the movie makers of Whip It! to let them use her shirt in their movie. "Her shirt" was an NWA Rollergirls eye logo shirt I designed last year for our league. Through extreme randomness she found me at ECE and wants to start selling that shirt on her store and wants me to design a whole line of derby merch. Crazy.

6. I missed people while I was gone.

PHOTOS:

This team is amazing. Charm City Allstars

This is Joy Collision from Charm City. She is my new favorite derby star.

White helmets are hot. These are the Texacutioners slapping hands with Gotham City. Beyonslay is in the front of that line.

These are the Liberty Bells from Philadelphia. Their uniforms are sorta crazy, sorta cool. This girl's dreads were very extreme.

This is the famous Rice Rocket from the Texacutioners taking on Suzy Hotrod from Gotham City.

Here is Carolina vs. the Denver Roller Dolls.

Saba Taj, Captain Jay and Myself in front of the Liberty Bell.

Me and the Sparrow on 6th Street in Downtown Philly.

Saba Taj playing in one of the zillion challenge bouts she signed up for.

Here's me on the Heroes team (Challenge bouts) that Saba and Jay were on as well.

This is Maimes. She was on our team as well. I love her body. It's not super thin, but she is very strong and curvy. Hot.

Thanks to Cory Oberndorfer & Mayhem for the derby photos.

Dang hackers

Eff you dudes.

Skate Odyssey Bout Photos

All from Shooter Strychnine

I use my ass to control:

Hell no you're not going to take the inside:

<img src="http://echoesbleeding.com/photos/skateodyssey/odyssey02.jpg"width="400px" height="277px">

<img src="http://echoesbleeding.com/photos/skateodyssey/odyssey03.jpg"width="400px" height="277px">

Hopefully this is a good pointy finger and not a bad pointy finger at Sin by Captain Jay:

<img src="http://echoesbleeding.com/photos/skateodyssey/odyssey04.jpg"width="400px" height="277px">

<img src="http://echoesbleeding.com/photos/skateodyssey/odyssey05.jpg"width="400px" height="277px">
Whew!

Still recovering.

The bout was great. OKVD beat us, but it's all good. They are a great team, and we even managed to outscore them in the 2nd half. So I am proud of my girls, and I have no probs with losing to such an amazing group of girls.

They were a ton of fun at the parties that followed as well. Thanks to the Peacocks for their after-after hospitality. I won Boob Off '08. That's all I am saying about that. Sally Strych9...you my girl!

Next bout is against RVRG. We have lots of training to do, but this week we are going to take it easy and just hang out as a team. It's JoAnn of Ark's last practice with us. She got placed on the Killbillies which is awesome, so we wanna celebrate!

Just watched a YouTube video of the CCC vs. BB bout. I skate funny. Need to fix that.

I am quite tired and need to get back to some real-life stuff going on. I have tons of web-design stuff to deal with: Free Weekly, my brother's band site, Marc. Henning's site (A photographer), Key Architecture site. Also have to ramp up on promo-ing the next bout which is May 31st.

George B. is depositing my check on May 9th, so I am scheduling my tattoo work with T. Hulshizer at Brainstorm today for Thursday the 15th. I am hoping that will give me enough heal time between that night and Sunday practice.

I also measured all the proper places for my new Pro-Designed gear. I didn't realize custom sizing was included in the price. Very sweet.

I have a loud mouth. Lesson learned. Shame on Sin.

Love

Love is pretty dang complicated. I like to think it's a bunch of butterflies partying it up in my stomach, but most of the time it's not. Many times it's something that causes me a lot of pain and a lot of frustration. Many times it turns me into a protective mother eagle with talons prepared to fight. And then there are the times when the butterflies in my stomach dance in perfect synchronization.

I'm not talking about the love I have for a boy, but rather the love I have for my league. This week has been a long island ice tea of fun, stress, anxiety, fear and work. But I can't imagine my life any other way. You don't get the butterfly pay-off without the other ingredients. Otherwise it's not worth a dime. It's easy to be in lust with something, but it's hard to be this in love with these amazing women & men and what we have created. it's pretty magical, and no one can beat our unity.

I love my league, and this weekend is going to rule.

1, 2, Beeeeeep!

That’s my new time for 5 laps. 45 seconds. I’m so happy. A big jump from where I first started. When I joined the league and took my MST’s I was timed at 59 secs. Ha!

Of course, I’ll never get down to Jay’s 40 secs., but I can always try :)

Practice was arrsome as Robin would say. Tonight we are painting the NWARG logo on the rink wall. Wee!

p.s. Look at the stopwatch. I grabbed it from a site online, and it says "Pirate" randomly the only thing I changed was the time. Weird!

Remember to get your tickets for the bout on Saturday!

Come see me skate!

Whiplash

Sorta, not really, but I feel rough today!

Last night there was a major collision on Interstate NWARG. I am not sure what happened, but I fell backwards for awhile, but ended up completely face down...eating varnish off the rink floor. Nice.

I now have a big lump/bruise on my ass and my neck feels like it was jerked around like a yo-yo. But hey, it's fun right? We did some AWESOME track coverage drills as well as a speed drill that pretty much killed everyone. Yay!

Razzle Dazzled it with Elena at the Denny's afterwards. Wednesday's are awesome.

Trying to put together some cable TV spots for the Rollergirls for our upcoming bout. Anyone got time, talent, equipment and a philanthropic spirit?

"Magical Unicorn Mayonnaise" is the phrase of the day. (I heart Robot Chicken)

I got my heart broke by the Little Ole Oprey

It's been a long time since one of my adventures got me as excited as going to the Little Ole Oprey in West fork. So I did some major "plannin" round this one. Miss Riot and I went thrift store shopping for just the right apparel. She found a cute pink cowboy hat. I got me a purty little dress. Both of us donning cowboy boots. It was perfect!

We drove down to West Fork to the Hedegard's residence. We chit chatted with Melinda and Jay Sr. Then the triple threat plus Captain Jay's brother Alex, hopped in the car and headed to the Oprey.

Upon arrival I was so insanely giddy. The outside of the historic building was so awesome. Ancient couples filing inside to see the show. We walked in, paid our $8 and found our seats. The overwhelming smell of "old person" was thick. (what makes that smell anyway? moth balls....mold?)

Now here is where things go totally against Sin's plans: The snack bar was the most exciting part of the night. Need I say more? I got a rootbeer and some corn chips. I requested that Miss Riot get something "awesome"....she chose a hotdog. The lights went down and the show began.

Ummmmmm did I say show? Or did I say, "hey let's git up 'ere and try to play some stuff....don't matter if we know what the othernin's is doin." Seriously. Ohhhh and there was not a banjo or fiddle in sight. (Sin sheds a tear) The keyboard player drowned out the other musicians who were slightly more talented than he, except for the poor bass player, "Bill", who seemed to know how to play in only about 3 keys.

There was a steel guitar feller...he was the most ancient of them all, and probably the most talented, but you could barely make out what he was doing half the time.

Shall we move onto the singers? Oh lawwwwwd. If you had lined them up and had them sing one after another it would have been slightly more torturous than water-boarding.

And not one sang any amazing old country standards and there was definitely no bluegrass to be found. Sad, sad, sad Sin.

To occupy our time we kept the snack bar quite busy. Slices of pie, pudding cups, sweet tea. Robin, Big Daddy and Jackson showed up as well. Being from South Louisiana, they were as let down as the rest of us. I got up and stood around hoping some strapping, young, 75 year old would ask me to dance to liven up my mood, but that never came to pass.

In complete frustration, I went on a mission to "make friends" with the peeps at the Oprey. I met one of the singer ladies, and a couple of old dudes. Talked to the director about singing at one of the open mic nights. (I can't even imagine how that will go considering this was one of their showcase nights)

So we left at intermission. With a broken heart, I got into the car and watched West Fork turn into Fayetteville as we drove back into town.

R.I.P. Sin's country lovin' heart.

Apparently I have sex with random men for money.

Or that's the latest word at the rink.

For reals.

Now, this blog is written, knowing how funny it is that a 36 year old woman hangs out at the local skating rink on Friday nights....but aside from that:

Jesster, Muff and I rolled into Roller City last night per the usual. The Captain was DJing and things were good. We listnened to some tunes and took some laps. At some point this little 12/13 whatever little boy rolled up and said, "My friends want to know if you’re really a prostitute?" Funny how it was phrased..."Really a prostitue", not "if you are".

I replied with "Absolutely" and rolled off.

Later little Billy (I'll call him) approached me again..."So how much do you charge?"

Ok, it was funny, now it's just insane....this is a child asking me these questions. Me: "Sweetie pie....if I was really a prosititue....do you think I’d be at a skating rink on a Friday night?" Him: "Yeah I know...my friends are retarded". Yeah....they are.

Ok so I think the entire ordeal is over....but alas, not the case.

The "friends" then skate by me and yell "Prostitute!" Ok now I'm pretty tired of the whole thing. So as they roll through the snack bar area, I stare them down. My eyes never leave the one that yelled it. She keeps trying to look away and is telling her friends what is going on. Finally she mouths "What the F%$& are you looking at?" At this point my dear captain, Miss Riot takes over. She rolls right up to them and "has words". Muff and I see the hand start snaking around and we know the smack is being laid down.

That's the last we heard from them :)

Went to bed early. I thought it was going to be my only quiet night, but it looks like this weekend has been turned into a big quiet dud. Bleh.

Next entry explains more.

In search of the white whale in a sea of blue.

I am in love with the band White Whale again. It's on one computer at home, but not transferred to my iPod yet. I do this all the time. I have music stored between 3 different computers and two iPods. I need to get synched up.

This Friday peeps are heading to our house to party like it's 2008 (because it is) and watch the bout video from Little Rock. It's going to be fun.

Last night's practice was super fun. I did not give into my "oh my god everyone is looking at me thinking I am a dork" fear and just let loose. I spilled all over the floor like a million times, but it was fun. I have now been dubbed "The Krasian" by Captain Jay. I like it. Maybe I can live up to that title and be "wild go crazy" during games. Speaking of spilling on the floor, while almost taking off one boob in a sliding fall on the super grippy Roller City floor, I also scraped up my elbow because ProTec makes THE WORST GEAR EVER! So I am on an obsessive hunt for the light blue Rector pads from the 80's. My first pads in derby were Rector Protector (in black) everything. I am now carrying around about three sets of various pads, none of which I like as much as my old Rectors. So yeah, I want those dang light blue pads. I found a set of the knee pads online and emailed the guy, pleading with him to magically make the matching elbow pads appear. Hope it works out.

Let's see...Sin's schedule is as follows:
Tonight: WordPress Tutorial with Todd Gill
Friday: Party down
Saturday Day: Pug Rescue event (for which I magically need to find a P.A. system)
Saturday Night: Drive to Van Buren for RVRG vs. OKVD
Sunday Morning: Drive to Tulsa, OK for NWARG vs. GCRG
Sunday Night: Celebrate NWARG's victory like whoah!

It's back to red lipstick for me....just saying.

Photos from Little Rock

About to destroy (otherwise known as posing in the hotel parking lot)

At the Clinton Presidential Library

The look that causes girls to swoon

Gettin' sexy with busts

This place is awesome

and inspiring

No longer a virgin.

So this weekend was a weekend of firsts.

First (and second) time ever sent to the penalty box.
First bout inflicted derby bruise. (will photograph later)
First time feeling like I was truly effective in a game.

I feel very accomplished after this weekend. I feel like I did my team proud, my coach proud, and my captain proud. Everyone worked together really well and we kicked booty. Final score 121-80 Betties.

There is so much to write about. Fun with the Little Rock Derby girls. Fun in the hot tub. Fun in the clown car. Fun at the bout. Fun seeing the Killbillies cheer us on. Not fun at IHOP in the middle of the night in swimsuit cover-ups and sleep overtaking. Fun at the Clinton Presidential Library.

I have a LOT to work on, but I feel like this weekend put my head in the right place on many things. Derby and life in general.

It was so nice to be at home with Travis who is finally not down with the flu. I am sore as hell, so we just laid in bed all evening watching crazy shows on the Discovery channel before moving over to Adult Swim to finish up the night.

The only photos I have are from the Clinton Library. Will post later.

Going to place our big NWA Rollergirls merch order today. Can't wait to get that stuff in. Going to Fort Smith on Saturday to watch RVRG play the OK Victory Dolls. Then off to Tulsa on Sunday for the Killbillies/Green Country bout.

Wheels that spin are good.

Focus

So my life has been derby 24/7. At the same time, my skating has not been as focused. I need to change that. The trips are fun, but they don't mean crap if I don't end up a badass this year. Badass '08 that's my goal.

Work has been lackluster. No special projects, nothing terribly challenging. I am about to redo the Fayetteville Free Weekly site (thank god), but just looking at themes right now, gathering ideas. We have some interns that are redesigning the masthead. I have seen some of their drafts. Tres nice. It will be nice to bring FFW into the present design-wise.

Tonight is The Professional's wedding. She is the captain of the Killbillies. It's going to be a nice, low-key beautiful night I am sure. Travis is very sick and not one for weddings, so Captain Jay is going as my sidekick. Speaking of T-Dogg, he is still down with the flu. It seems to be going on day 183, when actually it's about day 5, but the coughing and fevers and aches and pains makes it seems as though it's been forever.

It's going to be another derby weekend. Little Rock Derby Girls! We leave Fayetteville about 10:00 am and head down I-40. Coming back Sunday afternoon, AFTER checking out the Clinton Library and hitting up Vino's for some pizza. It'll be fun, but it seems I was just in my little Scion on a road trip about 5 minutes ago.

I never played a team sport in my life. So I have nothing to compare this to. I was involved heavily in music, choir and drama throughout school, but you were really in it for yourself. Socially I have never been in any sort of "club" either. No Girl Scouts, no sorority. I just have no idea how roller derby snatched me up and has this heroin like addiction on me, but it does and it feels really, really good. Always looking for that next hit.

Vegas

Just got an opportunity to go to Vegas for a modeling thing.
March 17th through 21st. Here's a wrap up of what's been going on lately:

The Backwoods Betties played their first ever bout in Dallas, TX last weekend. For us being a brand new team, I was really happy with the outcome. We lost by some major points, but we gave it our all, and tried to implement much of what we have been practicing for weeks.

I got a mention in a review of the game by Phil Arnold of Austin, TX on www.derbynewsnetwork.com:

"Top scorers for The Backwood Betties included Blonde Ice with 12
points, Magnum G.I. with 9 points and Blazen Glory with 7 points.
Top blockers included Jesster Riot, Sin, and JoAnn of Arc."

Here's a photo by Ziv Kruger:

Sin in blue skates.

The trip itself was a blast as always. A car full of Jesster, Jay, Spark and Sin equals booze, possible speeding violations and laughing hysterically at weirdos in small town gas stations.

During the bout I fell weird on one of my knees (the OTHER one that had been my good knee) it was stiff the following day, but I sorta paid no mind. I noticed it's tenderness leading up to last night, but was an idiot and did not see the signs. At last night's practice I fell (which is not uncommon) but fell on it and just had to lay there in pain. To date I have never not gotten right back up after a fall, but last night broke that record. It just would not stop hurting. I am pretty mad at myself, because we play Little Rock in a matter of weeks, and I have to be in top shape. I am going to see my doctor today just to speed that along.

The Killbillies did a great job in Dallas as well, but Derby Devils are just a larger, older more experienced league at this point. We'll get 'em next year! No one came away from the bout sad that we lost. DDD are really fun and they play a clean game. I am glad we went.

Looking over my schedule for the next few months is quite insane:
Sat. Feb. 16th - Party
Fri. Feb 22nd - Little Rock Bout (going to watch)
Sunday Feb 24th - Stillwater, OK- CORDA (Central Oklahoma Roller Derby Association vs. NWARG) (playing possibly)
Sat. March 1st - Little Rock vs. Backwoods Betties (playing)
Sun, March 9th - Tulsa vs. Killbillies (bench manager) This is the bout where they are auctioning our Breast Casts
Sat. April 18th - Big Easy Rollergirls from New Orleans, LA vs. Killbillies (bench manager) & Capital City Crushers (Topeka, KS)
vs. Betties (playing)
Sat. April 26th - Derby Dames from Pike's Peak, CO vs. Killbillies (bench manager) and Betties vs. Oklahoma Victory Dolls (playing)

So this year I think poor Travis will truly be a Derby Widow as they are known. I'll need to make that up to him :)

One of my Derby Sisters, Blackzilla, noted in her blog that her non-derby friends are becoming less and less a part of her life. I find that to be true as well. While it's not what I want, or how I have intentionally engineered it, it just becomes inevitable I guess. When you work 40 hours a week, practice derby about 5- 6 hours a week, and the spend the entire weekend on the road with derby.....it pretty much pulls you out of your non derby life by default.

I wonder what will happen to me in 5 years when I can't walk and can't play derby and have no friends.

Highlights of Dallas:
1. Dirt leg children
2. Straws being picked up off the dirty floor and being placed in drinks for dirt legs....by adults.
3. I'm just going to say...Michael Jackson.
4. Dis Missle's wardrobe.
5. Vodka
6. Quick Trip love

The Best One

abc_the_talk_psa.wmv

New Peta Spots are Awesome

Learn more about PETA's ABC campaign at PETA.org

Learn more about PETA's ABC campaign at PETA.org

Oh No!

I think my iMac died last night. I meant to say it sorta didn't happen because by song number three Craig (lead singer) had thrown both monitors into the crowd and had flew off the stage and onto the back of the sound guy as he was walking away after having had 'words' with each other.

Big fight ensued.

I wonder why really talented people teeter on the volatile side?

Afterwards I came home to a very warm house. I guess Spring is almost here. Did we have a winter?

The Big D is happening this weekend and I DO mean Dallas. It's no longer just slight insecurity, but full blown neurosis.

I have been sending all my derby sistas their photos from the shoot. I never sent them "drunk" looking shots, closed eyes, weirdo looks, nothing like that. I only sent pretty (from my perspective) photos. And I cannot believe the response I have received.

These beautiful girls don't see it. All they see is a wrinkle here, flab there, big this, small that. It's so completely sad. These are gorgeous, powerful, smart, creative women, who have reduced themselves to a 400 pixel wide sum of imperfections.

Years ago, I was caught up in the over contrasty photos to hide what I saw as imperfections. How many photos did I display with no dang nose? But thousands of photos later...I seriously just don't care. Now I don't want a really BAD photo of myself on my blog, but I realize that when I am walking around in this world, I am not floating in a cloud of Photoshop. Every step makes a jiggle, and everyday the wrinkles are spreading....but really...what am I supposed to do? I put up the photos that show less of my gut and move on.

I don't think there is anything wrong with saturating your photos some, adjusting the curves, etc. But really....out of 20 images...surely there is one you can be satisfied with.

I am not angry with these girls..I am just stunned. They are so pretty and yet Cosmo has led them to believe that they're not good enough. I want to punch advertisers in the facehole.

To my derby sisters & women all over the world. "You're pretty and I'll call you tomorrow." Men - That's all we really want to hear.

p.s. Big thanks to Lena Regina and Dan Murphy for taking most of their Sunday to take photos for the NWA Rollergirls. More than 250,000 American women younger than 40 live with breast cancer and more than 11,500 young women will be diagnosed in the next year. The Young Survival Coalition will be the beneficiary of the proceeds. Not only will this bout be educational, it will be exciting! Roller Derby women are TOUGH, and so are breast cancer survivors!

Dimah Darling designed my cast after it set...I love it. It's so beautiful.

Other casts can be seen here.
