Swim Club

Otherwise known as Operation Hottness Squared.

JessTer and I are on a quest to change our bodies. We decided that one sort of exercise would not be beneficial and that by mixing it up we would be cross training as well as having fun. So after work we are /have been walking and running, playing tennis, strength training, etc. Every morning we have been swimming. It is SOOOO much fun. I was seriously against swimming in public due to my non-supermodel figure, but JessTer assured me that by going to the Jones Center I would encounter no more than "2 old dudes in the pool."

So this week I got the "swim club required uniform". Uber plain black tank, swim cap & goggles. JessTer explained that you have to "look the part" to really get into it. It's true. If I had showed up in my little fashionable swimsuit and hair everywhere, I would not be able to concentrate on my swimming. So yeah, there we are every morning. The swim cap brats. I need to take a photo of our shiny, rubber heads and goggled eyeballs. Oh and yeah, when we go...there are seriously just "2 old dudes in the pool." When I am getting ready for work after we swim the old ladies begin to show up. Today they were all trading vegetables they have been growing in their gardens. Will there be a time when the excitement of my day is trading squash for okra with JessTer?

Tonight is tennis night. I haven't ever REALLY played tennis, but when I was a child my dad enjoyed it and we would play a little in our yard, because we were ghetto and did not go to a court or own one. Maybe someones mom could teach me? (ha!) I hope I don't suck too bad.

My knee is healing. With Celebrex it feels pretty good, but I still can't land on it or kneel on it without pain, but walking, running, swimming seem to not hurt too bad.

Waiting on more test results from my doctor. Wish me luck.

In work news yesterday, Former Office Larry Norman was sentenced to 90 DAYS IN JAIL for the, in my opinion, murder of teenager Erin Hamley. The incident happened last year, when Erin was gunned down by a idiot cop that drove up to a scene that he obviously was not prepared to deal with in a professional manner. The police had been looking for escaped convict, Adman Leadford. They saw Erin Hamley walking down the side of a road. Several officers stopped him surrounded him and sorta had the scene under control. They were asking him to take his hands out of his pockets and lie on the ground. He was still standing when Norman arrived. In the video, you can hear Norman drive up...without his traffic radio on, listening to rando music. He sits there, loads his gun, gets out of his car, is told by the officer in charge to stop what he is doing and go direct traffic. Hamley eventually lies on the ground. Norman, disregarding the orders to direct traffic, proceeds toward Hamely and shoots him.

Apparently there is audio that reveals Hamley asking why he was shot, why he was going to die, what did he do, etc. It is all so incredibly tragic. The police found Adam Leadford, the escaped convict I believe the following day in a Wal-Mart.

The grand jury was given the choice of "premeditated murder" or "negligent homicide" which neither fit. Of course it wasn't premeditated, but a misdemeanor charge is ridiculous as well.

Yesterday after the sentencing hearing, the videos were released to the press as well as all the other court documents, our office spent most of our time going over them, editing all the video getting the stories, photos and videos on the web etc.

It was grueling, and I have to say, I was not down with viewing the raw video, but Hamley's mom wanted it to be shown to ensure that it would never again. Well Mrs. Hamely, don't hold out too much hope. These incidents will continue to happen as long as testosterone driven, gun happy cops are out and about.

Starving to death.

Frustration

Pug Rescue is in trouble right now. We are feeling really overwhelmed.
We currently have 6 dogs that need homes, 4 of which are all staying with one foster mom.

One of them, one that I picked up during the winter, has now developed tumors on both of her eyes. She was blind when she was brought into our rescue, but we are now faced with her going through a surgery to remove both of her eyes.

We also have two people calling us wanting to return their pugs because they now don't want to deal with them for one reason or another.

It's all so frustrating. Our little organization has very little money and our foster homes are exhausted. I just want to scream when I think about breeders and buying dogs and all of that crap. So many homeless dogs are in need, and yet we produce dogs like they are the latest designer jeans.

I don't know what we are going to do. We are contacting other rescues to see if they can help out. It's just always nerve wracking, because you never know if their adoption standards are as high...if the dogs WILL indeed end up in a better home.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I heart Mac

Just finished installing a new hardrive in my Powerbook G4. The old one died about 4 months ago and last week I finally ordered a new one off eBay. I got 150 gigs for $100. Pretty sweet. The old drive was only 60 gig. It was a pretty simple process (thanks Trav) so now I think I will upgrade the memory as well.

Lazy Saturday. We got the entire "Planet Earth" series. If you haven't seen any episodes of this, I highly recommend it. Quite beautiful. Travis is at the store right now and I am in the middle of The Chronicles of Riddick. He's going to cook falafel and then we are going to begin watching the first DVD of Planet Earth. I have seen several episodes on TV, but I want to watch all 11 episodes in order.

I cleaned the house well today which always includes sweeping up a huge pile of pet fur. I think I am going to invest in one of those iRobot for pets vacuum thingies due to the immense amount of pug and cat hair I sweep up daily. It would be nice to set those things to cleaning everyday before I go to work and come home without floating hair everywhere.

That's it for now.

Middle of June

Travis and I were just talking about how we can't believe it's already past the middle of the month, let alone freaking June. What happened to my year? Where'd it go? I looked in the closet and under our bed, but an't seem to locate it anywhere.

I can't seem to get myself inline with what all is going on and what I need to do. We had Toma's paintings delivered the other day, but still have not hung them. The rollergirls have a bout coming up that I need to get a ton of stuff done for, that I can't seem to get rollin'.

I did, however, find time this weekend to get my flower beds in the front of the house somewhat organized. I bought some plants and flowers and mulch. Cleaned out the weeds and relocated some plants that didn't seem to work where they were. I am going to try to take photos soon.

Travis and I ordered a new bed a few weeks back and it is finally being delivered today. We're uber excited. We've had the same mattress/box springs on an old rickety metal frame forever. We were due the upgrade.

Still working on CSS skills daily. Reading this book for general function and understanding and this one for implementation. I plan to get my grips on this stuff and then get into understanding stuff like Javascript, PHP and Ajax. Don't laugh.

I feel so much better now.

Natural Water

Last weekend I spent drinking with my team on Lake Hamilton. It was loads of fun. Jesster got the photos to me today.

Now two weird things: Yes I was at the lake (for those of you who know my thoughts about natural water) and all these photos are me at the lake therefore me with very little makeup on. Umm yeah.

Voila!

Playing makeup artist with the girls.

Me and my girl Jesster ready to launch.

Cpn' Spark Plug and I about to launch number two.

Dizoctor

So I gave in and went to the doctor today for my injured knee. I also talked to her about two other issues. Here's how it went:

Knee: Still swollen. She prescribed Celebrex. Going back in two weeks to do some sort of orthopedic consult. No roller derby until it is totally healed.

Weirdo redness/itchy scrape things on my knees since the January bout: Psoriasis. Prescribed some sort of high potent cortisone cream.

Weight: Ordered my records from the doctor I saw a few months ago who gave me the negative on the thyroid diagnosis. I basically take in more than I burn off like most every other American..but being vegan and doing roller derby still makes her question it. She's going to look over my records and when I go back possibly give me a appetite suppressant to help me get started. She also recommends I seek out a dietitian who understands my veganism and can work with me to get my diet under control. So now I am on 6 small meals a day keeping it all to 1200 calories per day. I am also going to start walking again in the mornings while also doing roller derby after my knee heals.

Ugh. For someone who has never been on a prescription medicine in her life, this is all pretty annoying. But I am sick of my knee hurting and I am very discouraged with my body.

Wish I had a drink right now. hahahaha

The Weekend

The weekend turned out to be a lot of fun.
I decided to go on the party barge trip with my team on Lake Hamilton. Dill's parents own a house right on the water along with the big boat.
Spark, Jesster and I rode over together in my car. We got there about 10:00 that night.
Started drinking immediately of course :)

Weekend Warriors included:
Spark Plug
Dill
LED
Blackzilla
Tough Muffin
Bad News Bailey
Amber
Magnum G.I.
lil' Pain Maker (Mags, the beta version)
JessTer Riot
Sin
Rock the dog
Pike the Dog
Eli the Dog

In the morning we got up, made breakfast and loaded up to have fun on the lake. I don't like to swim in natural water and my knee is still messed up from the bout, but I laid out in the sun while awesome team sisters rode a big inner tube type device. Cpn' Sparky and Capn' Dill were great at throwing them off by whipping around in the water.

We came back at some point, ate a little and then headed back, but mostly I just drank lots of Icepicks. At some point the fun ended and we headed home. We ran out of gas and had to be towed across the entire lake. I think the old couple who towed us were getting pretty fed up with us by the time we got back to the house.

We slept hard and then came home the next day.

JessTer is getting photos off of her camera that I will post here soon.

Friday!

I am pretty excited about it being Friday. This week has seemed extremely long. But this weekend is proving to be just as busy. I have a wedding I would like to attend, a going-away party, weekend on Lake Hamilton with my team and weekend on Lake Oachita with Trav's family. Hmmmmm what to do?

Moving

Have decided to move echoesbleeding.com over to a regular blog. I think this will be a much easier way to deal with all the content and a better way to keep up with my blogging. Trying to migrate away from MySpace and LJ.

More customization coming soon.
